How I started my concert photographer career at an airport

Last April, I had the privilege of shooting one of my favorite artists ever. Vancouver-based rock band Actors . They are the best. I remember discovering their catalog at the height of the pandemic, and it helped me get through that moment. Since then, their music has held a special place for me.
The thing is that I had never done concert photography before. I was 100% ok about not having this skill because concert halls never have good lighting, and I was sure that I would never be able to get a good result photographing a show. Except that it was Actors and I wanted to do that.

The whole story started when I was at Montreal airport waiting for my flight to Vancouver. My wife, my two dogs and I were on the final stage of a huge change in our lives — not every day do you move to another country and start a new life — so we were happy but also tired from so many flights and hours of travelling from Brazil to Canada.
At that moment, I looked across the hall and saw them: Shannon, Jason, Kendall and Andrew! The whole band! Of course, I had to talk to them. And that’s what I did. I went to say hi and thank them for all their music. They had just returned from a tour of Europe and were about to catch the same flight as us. Did I mention that they are the best? Shannon loves dogs, and Jason invited us to their concert the following month. He even said he was going to put my name on the list as one of the photographers. That was the moment I knew my reality as a photographer who had never shot a concert was about to change. How lucky I am! The night of the concert was one of the best I've experienced. It was a remarkable one. This is the final outcome.
If you get the chance, I think you should watch Actors live. They're currently touring the USA and have some European dates planned for next year, when they'll hopefully have a new album. Thanks, guys!
